A guide on how to apply to NFD actors Agency

On set with NFD crew and cast.

Over the years, I have received numerous emails from individuals wanting to be represented by me at Northern Film and Drama. I primarily focus on children's agency. However, in the last ten years, I have represented adult actors, and they have been successful in the acting industry. Nevertheless, it remains challenging to represent adult actors who come into the industry later, especially as many casting directors lean towards experienced actors. However, there is now more willingness to consider emerging older talent who have gained some experience. I believe in reaching out to all types of actors, including those honing their skills through independent short films and self-performed monologues.

I do not represent actors who apply to my agency independently unless they have at least four genuine IMDB credits from reputable production companies I recognise. For those who don't meet these qualifications and do not attend our classes I ask that they send me self-tapes once or twice a month to track their progress. I offer guidance and feedback until they reach the standard I require for representation. Some may be surprised by this requirement, but it serves as a test of their commitment. They may need to reconsider their aspirations if unwilling to do this.

It's important to adhere to my process, as it determines whether an actor will be put forward for auditions. I evaluate each individual based on their attitude and behavior, as entitlement and a lack of willingness to learn will not bode well in this industry. If you wish to apply to my agency, you must have a CV, a headshot, and preferably be on Spotlight. In your application, explain why you want to be an actor, why you want to join our agency, how long you've been pursuing your career, and what qualifications you believe you have. Additionally, be prepared to submit two pieces to the camera per month for evaluation and feedback.

If you feel you have completed your training and are ready for roles, I urge you to reconsider. Acting is a tough and complex business, and staying open to learning and remaining passionate is crucial for success. It's not an easy ride, but staying focused and remembering why you're in this industry is essential.

If you are interested in joining our school we will plan a structured route to help you achieve your goals of becoming a screen actor.
